Congratulation to Dr. LAU Siu Fung Bryan to be selected as the awardee of the scholarship of IOC course on Cardiovascular Evaluation of Olympic Athletes. This scholarship was open to HKASMSS members who had finished the IOC Course on Cardiovascular Evaluation of Olympic Athletes, as a support to the continuous education of team physicians, sport medicine specialists and consultant cardiologists in Hong Kong. The scholarship included HKD5000 to support the course fee and travelling expenses.

Brief report from Dr. LAU about the course:

The sudden and unexpected cardiac death is a rare, but tragic and emotional event, which assumes high visibility when occurs in an elite athlete. To acquire the most updated practical information relative to the appropriate methods for evaluating athletes in Hong Kong, two Past Presidents Dr. Raymond So and Dr. Gary Mak, Vice President Dr. John Wong and I attended the IOC COURSE ON CARDIOVASCULAR EVALUATION OF OLYMPIC ATHLETES, held on JULY 04-05, 2019 at Tokyo.
This course provides a comprehensive scientific update relative to the most challenging cardiac diagnoses among athletes. At least half of the course were reserved for practical examples with instant expert’s opinion. Most of the attention have been spent on the appropriate interpretation of the 12-leads ECG to minimise false positive result, as well as the correct indication for additional diagnostic testing when needed, including exercise ECG testing, echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance.
